Mazda has garnered a well-deserved reputation for building nimble cars that look stylish and are fun to drive. However, this doesn’t mean that their models don’t have some muscle. The 2025 Mazda CX-90 is a perfect example of an ultra-power economical SUV.

Here, Wellesley Mazda goes over the different engine options and what to expect when you take it for a test drive.

Two Engine Choices

The 2025 Mazda CX-90 has two powertrains to pick from. The base is a turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six-cylinder with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and it produces 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque.

If those numbers don’t do it for you, the available turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six-cylinder should suffice. It too comes with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, but it generates 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, and its shifts are smooth and precise.

Here’s another notable attribute of the new Mazda CX-90: When properly equipped, the base engine can tow up to 3,500 lbs, and that increases to 5,000 lbs with the bigger engine.

Excellent Handling

You are going to love putting the pedal to the metal in your 2025 Mazda CX-90, especially when passing slower traffic out on the highway. But in addition to all of that power, this SUV shines when roads get curvy. All-wheel drive is standard, and this helps give this large vehicle great traction and deft handling. You also won’t have to worry about encountering bumpy roads, as its top-notch suspension will help smooth them out.
